Definition: On February 2nd, a groundhog comes out its hole from hibernation. If it sees its shadow, then there is 6 more weeks of winter.
History: The idea comes from an ancient Christian celebration called Candlemas day, which marks the middle of the winter solstice and spring equinox. On Candlemas day, clergy would bless candles that were needed for winter and give them to people. The Germans expanded the tradition, using a hedgehog instead of a groundhog.
Punxsutawney Phil's Prediction: There will be 6 more weeks of winter.
